Construction Begins at China’s Largest Industrial Base for the Production of High-abundance Ytterbium-176 Isotope
Time: 2025-11-12

On 10 October, construction began at the Sino-Singapore Tianjin Eco-City, home to China’s largest industrial base for the production of high-abundance Ytterbium-176 isotope. This milestone marks a significant leap for the Institute of Physical and Chemical Engineering of Nuclear Industry, as its technology for producing this isotope transitions from the laboratory to industrial scale. This represents a major breakthrough in the industrial application of the technology.

Upon completion, the project will be capable of producing kilogram-scale quantities of the isotope and generating annual economic output worth hundreds of millions of yuan. This development will effectively fill a critical gap in the supply of raw materials for the domestic radiopharmaceutical industry, enhancing China’s ability to supply key materials independently and helping Tianjin to establish a competitive and influential radiopharmaceutical industry cluster.
