China Ranks First Globally in Total Nuclear Power Installed Capacity
China now holds the world’s largest nuclear power Installed capacity, the China Nuclear Energy Association (CNEA) announced on 17 April.
The country currently operates 60 nuclear power units and has a further 36 under construction, accounting for over half of the global total. A further 16 units have been approved, bringing the country’s total installed capacity to 125 GWe.
China’s homegrown third-generation Hualong One reactor has entered mass production, driven by efficient construction period and fully independent industrial and supply chains. Over 40 Hualong One units are operating or approved at home and abroad till now.
As the level of self-reliance and localization in construction technology steadily improves, China has gradually developed the capability to manage the entire cycle of nuclear power projects, from preparation and construction to cold testing and commercial operation.
