CGN’s Taipingling Unit 1 Begins Commercial Operation
On 20 April, Unit 1 of the Taipingling Nuclear Power Project, operated by CGN in Guangdong Province, began generating electricity and became commercially operational. This is the first Hualong One reactor in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
Based on the average annual utilization hours of nuclear power units in 2025, the reactor is expected to generate over 9 TWh of electricity per year — enough to meet the annual electricity production and consumption needs of one million people across the Greater Bay Area.
Following the commissioning of Taipingling Unit 1, CGN now operates 29 nuclear power units with a total installed capacity of 33.04 GWe. The company also has 19 units under construction, with a combined installed capacity of 23.02 GWe. Of these, 17 units adopt third-generation Hualong One technology.
